Should you be obligated to cook your partner breakfast?

Cooking is a good way to show someone you care about them. It's a way to make sure their needs are met, and their bellies are full. If you love someone, you might love cooking for them. You put your care into each step, and they can really feel it in every bite. Maybe you do this for your partner. It makes their lives a little easier, and you don't mind doing it. But it's an entirely different thing to be relied on. Then, you're not doing a spontaneous act of kindness. They're building your life around their generosity. This happens in relationships, and that can be okay. You're allowed to rely on each other and need each other. But that doesn't mean you should take each other for granted.   • Having breakfast made for you every morning is a luxury that you're not often awarded as an adult. Maybe when you were a kid, your parents would make sure you were fed before you went to school. But as an adult, nobody does that for you. If you have a partner who does (even though they probably have their own tasks to get to in the morning), then you should cherish that. You should also think about returning the favor every now and again. What you definitely shouldn't do is criticize their cooking. If someone is going out of their way to make you feel good, it's on you to take that in with as much gratitude as possible. It's not a good look to go around making people feel bad for trying to be nice. That's exactly what the husband in this story did, though, and his wife was growing tired of it.
